- According to tradition, Parthasarathy Temple was installed by Pandava prince Arjuna to atone for killing weaponless Karna during the Kurukshetra war. Situated on the banks of the Pamba River, the temple structure displays traditional Kerala circular sanctum architecture (Vattazhuthu). It is one of the 108 Divya Desams in Kerala.
Significance
- Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple is a major Divya Desam dedicated to Lord Krishna in his role as Parthasarathy (charioteer to Arjuna). The temple is famous for the Aranmula Uthrattathi Boat Race (Vallamkali) and the grand Valla Sadya feast served in snake boats on the Pamba River. The sacred Thanka Anki (golden attire) for Sabarimala is preserved and started in procession from here.
