- Built by the Pandyan rulers and embellished by the Madurai Nayaks, this temple complex surrounds a sacred, hollow tamarind tree (Tirupuli). Saint Nammalvar spent sixteen years in silent meditation inside this tree hollow before composing his divine hymns.
Significance
- Serving as the focal point of the Nava Tirupati circuit linked with Jupiter (Guru), Alwarthirunagari is the birth town of Nammalvar. The grand annual Vaikasi Visagam festival features the convergence of processional deities from all nine Nava Tirupati temples.
