  • Legend attributes the founding of Janardanaswamy Temple to Sage Narada, with historical construction rebuilt over 2,000 years ago by a Pandyan monarch seeking redemption. Situated near the red cliff coastline of Varkala, the temple received patronage from Travancore rulers. It houses a large ancient Dutch bell gifted by a ship captain.

  • Sree Janardanaswamy Temple is revered as 'Dakshina Kashi' (Varanasi of the South), situated on a hilltop near Papanasam Beach in Varkala.
