- Jagathrakshaga Perumal Temple (Vaiyam Katha Perumal) was established during the Chola era and extensively restored by Rani Mangammal of Madurai Nayaks. Sung in hymns by Thirumangai Alvar, the site marks the confluence of the Cauvery and Vennaru rivers.
Significance
- Dedicated to Lord Jagathrakshagan, who saved the Earth from demon Hiranyaksha and restored the Vedas, this Divya Desam is venerated for universal protection. The main shrine depicts Vishnu holding the conch and discus ready to protect his creation. The temple pond is known as Chakra Tirth.
