- Birla Mandir in Hyderabad was constructed over ten years by the Birla Foundation and consecrated in 1976 CE by Swami Ranganathananda of Ramakrishna Mission. Built atop the 280-foot high Naubath Pahad hillock, the structure required 2,000 tons of white Rajasthani marble. It overlooks the scenic expanse of Hussain Sagar Lake.
Significance
- The shrine encloses an 11-foot tall granite replica of Lord Venkateswara of Tirupati under an carved lotus canopy. Its design blends Utkala, South Indian, and Rajasthani architectural traditions without traditional temple bells to preserve a quiet environment for meditation. It commands panoramic urban views of Hyderabad.
