King Harihara Raya II (Vijayanagara Empire)
  • Sri Yaganti Uma Maheswara Temple was constructed in the late 15th century by King Harihara Raya II of the Vijayanagara Empire. Built around natural rock caves in the Yerramala hills, it exemplifies Vijayanagara stone architecture. The temple complex integrates natural spring water and mountain caverns.

Significance

  • The shrine encloses a monolithic sculpture of Lord Shiva and Parvati as Uma Maheswara carved out of a single stone. It is renowned for its central monolithic Nandi bull, which scientific surveys confirm has continuously expanded in size over time. Surrounding caves, including Agastya Cave, add to its spiritual heritage.
