- Vibhash Shakti Peetha (Bargabhima Temple) is situated in Tamluk (ancient Tamralipta), Purba Medinipur. Constructed over 1,100 years ago during the reign of the Mayura dynasty, the stone and mortar temple exhibits an unusual blend of Kalinga and Orissan architectural influences. It survived medieval invasions to remain an active shrine.
Significance
- Vibhash Shakta Pitha is venerated as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, where Goddess Sati's left ankle fell. The deity is worshipped as Bargabhima (Kapalini) accompanied by Sarvananda Bhairava. The temple is historically linked to the ancient port city of Tamralipta and remains the principal Shakta center of Medinipur.
