- Ananteshwar Temple is the oldest active temple in Udupi, dating back to at least the 8th century AD under the Alupa dynasty. In the 13th century AD, the Dvaita Vedanta philosopher Sri Madhvacharya taught his disciples within this temple before disappearing from human sight while delivering a discourse.

- Shri Ananteshwar Temple is the oldest shrine in Udupi, worshipping Lord Shiva manifested as Ananteshwar on a Linga placed upon a stone pedestal.
