- Tara Tarini Temple is an ancient Shakti Peetha located atop Kumari hills on the bank of the Rushikulya River. The ancient shrine underwent major stone reconstruction in traditional Kalinga style, which was inaugurated in 2022. It has long been venerated as the primary Tantric Shakti center of Southern Odisha.
Significance
- Maa Tara Tarini Temple is recognized as one of the four major ancient Tantric Adi Shakti Peethas in India, where the breasts of Sati are believed to have fallen. Twin stone idols representing twin sisters Goddess Tara and Goddess Tarini are enshrined in the sanctum. Devotees climb 999 stone steps or take a ropeway to reach the hill shrine.
