- Sharada Peeth is an ancient temple monastery complex built between the 1st and 8th centuries CE along the Neelum River. It was expanded into a stone temple university during the reign of King Lalitaditya Muktapida of the Karkota dynasty. It functioned for centuries as one of South Asia's foremost seats of learning.
Significance
- Sharada Peeth is revered as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas representing Sati's right hand, as well as the historic center of the Sharada script. Scholars like Adi Shankaracharya and Ramanujacharya traveled here to access rare Vedic texts. Though now in ruins, it remains a symbol of Kashmiri cultural and spiritual heritage.
