- Shri Naina Devi Temple was established in the 8th century AD by Raja Bir Chand, the founder of Bilaspur state, after a Gujjar shepherd named Naina discovered the shrine. Perched atop a hill 1,100 meters above sea level, the temple was expanded with modern marble courtyards and a ropeway system.
Significance
- Shri Naina Devi Temple is one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas where Goddess Sati's eyes (Nayana) are believed to have fallen. The sanctum enshrines three images representing Naina Devi, Kali, and Lord Ganesha. Perched high above Gobind Sagar Lake, it draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims during Shravan and Navratri fairs.
