Ancient
Founder
Raja Bhumi Chand / Maharaja Ranjit Singh
  • Jwalamukhi Temple in Kangra was originally discovered by Raja Bhumi Chand after receiving divine guidance in a dream. Sikh Emperor Maharaja Ranjit Singh presented a golden dome to the temple in 1815 AD, and Maharaja Kharak Singh donated gold leafing for the doors. It has been venerated for centuries without any physical idol.

Significance

  • Jwalamukhi Temple is one of the premier 51 Shakti Peethas where Goddess Sati's tongue fell. The shrine is famous for natural blue gas flames that burn continuously out of rock fissures in the temple wall without any fuel. Devotees visit to witness these divine natural flames, worshipped as nine forms of Goddess Durga.
