- Chintamani Temple at Theur was closely associated with Saint Morya Gosavi and received patronage from Peshwa Madhavrao I. Madhavrao Peshwa built the wooden assembly hall (Sabha Mandap) and spent his last days praying at this complex. The temple features carved wooden pillars and east-facing orientation.
Significance
- Chintamani Temple is the fifth temple in the Ashtavinayak sequence. Legend states that Lord Ganesha recovered the sacred Chintamani jewel ('gem of desires') from the greedy demon Gana here to return it to Sage Kapila. Devotees visit seeking spiritual tranquility and relief from mental worries.
