- The original wooden temple was reconstructed into a sturdy stone structure in 1760 AD by Morobadada Fadnavis during the Peshwa rule. Lead was mixed into the mortar during construction to provide earthquake resistance. The temple commemorates Ballal, a devoted boy who steadfastly worshipped Lord Ganesha.
Significance
- Ballaleshwar Pali is the third shrine in the Ashtavinayak pilgrimage circuit and uniquely the only Ganesha temple named after an ardent devotee, Ballal. The east-facing Ganesha idol features diamonds embedded in its eyes and navel. The hall is constructed such that sunrise rays illuminate the deity during summer solstices.
