History and Significance
History
- As prescribed in Chapter 100 of the Kashi Khand, Shringar Gauri is located behind the western wall of the Gyan Vapi complex. Historically, worship was performed regularly at this ancient site as part of the Gauri Yatra. The image of the Goddess is carved on the wall structure adjacent to Vishwanath Temple.
Significance
- Shringar Gauri is worshipped on the third day after Amavasya during the Gauri Yatra for marital harmony, beauty, and auspiciousness. Devotees offer traditional cosmetics (shringar) to seek her grace. She represents the divine aesthetic and protective aspect of Goddess Parvati.
