- Jalmandir was built by King Nandivardhana, elder brother of Lord Mahavira, to mark Mahavira's cremation site in 527 BCE. The shrine was erected in the center of a massive lotus lake created by followers removing soil as holy ashes. The white marble structure has been lovingly restored by Jain trusts across centuries.

- Jalmandir is one of Jainism's most sacred sites, signifying the exact spot where 24th Tirthankara Lord Mahavira attained Nirvana.
