History
- Chapter 68 of the Kashi Khand narrates that in Satya Yuga, this Shivling self-manifested from the earth in response to prayers by Devas and Rishis. Recognized as one of the original lingas of Kashi, it played a foundational role in declaring Kashi as a Mukti Kshetra.
Significance
- Aadi Mahadev represents the primeval manifestation of Lord Shiva in Kashi. Devotees worship this self-manifested linga to obtain liberation (mukti) from karmic cycles and acquire spiritual wisdom.
